FR JIM MEETS HM THE LATE QUEEN AT A GARDEN PARTY FOR THE LAMBETH CONFERENCE WITH LORD AND LADY CAREY
Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, shine through the gloom and point me to the skies; heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee, in life, in death
O LORD ABIDE WITH ME
THE QUEEN IS DEAD, LONG LIVE THE KING
SEPTEMBER 11 HOMILY SALFORDS CHURCH 2022
Where do we begin on this history-making Sunday morning. What does the pastor say to his people. Is this an end or a beginning. There is sadness and yes there is also a sense of joy. Will we get the words of the National Anthem correct. In our life-times we will no longer sing God save the Queen, it is now a turning point to allow the royal offspring to follow in the now late Queen’s footsteps, as he, like her desires now to serve and to be dedicated to church, state, commonwealth and the tradition that brings pilgrims and tourists to our country in succession of millions that we see on the streets of the capital and scattered around our green and pleasant land. Friday night I felt the personal need to do something so I went to London and joined in the 1000 or so standing next to the strength and power that emanates from Christopher Wren’s where I was ordained deacon in 2005. (I was most appreciative for having 9 of us gathered together of our faithful present on Friday for our immediate response to the sadness of the fleeting moment. The simple Requiem helped me to see God’s role in it all.
Our shrine is now in place, please light a candle, shed a tear, pray for the King and the Queen Consort, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and all who will be the fresh leaders in new ways, for the advancement of the faithful and hope of us all, as the challenges of a new order break upon us all. As I personally recall I have had the personal triumph of that milestone so many crave as I can boast I have met the Queen and as a royal name dropper, more than once. I have to tell someone, can I tell you all. Please. How can one human gifted with majesty and grace touch the heart of the nation, commonwealth and so much more.
As Supreme Governor f our beloved C of E, she was like a true evangelist, when we seek to get our own local mission and outreach, we need to be simply attentive to the consistent Christian testimony the late Queen especially at those precious moments at 3 p.m. when there was a sacred halt of activities, no gifts opened, no food, no crackers Christmas Day. At Old Palace where I lived in Canterbury seeing the Queen and hearing her words paved the way for the delights of a truly English Christmas, and there is no such feast better than this, Christmas with the Sovereign, millions say yes. Millions heard her proclaim each Christmas:
At Christmas, I am always struck by how the spirit of togetherness lies also at the heart of the Christmas story. A young mother and a dutiful father with their baby were joined by poor shepherds and visitors from afar. They came with their gifts to worship the Christ child.
Queen Elizabeth II
In his first speech the new King spoke to his Anglican Christian faith. The role and the duties of Monarchy also remain, as does the Sovereign’s particular relationship and responsibility toward the Church of England — the Church in which my own faith is so deeply rooted. In that faith, and the values it inspires, I have been brought up to cherish a sense of duty to others, and to hold in the greatest respect the precious traditions, freedoms and responsibilities of our unique history and our system of parliamentary government.
Today’s gospel reflects the nature of a God who cares for a lost sheep, a prodigal son, and a women’s treasure. He cares, and from him and the gospel itself - come the compassion and dedication of a woman not born to be queen but who will surpass all understanding of what it means to be royal in the history books being written this very day.
St Peter reminds us in his first epistle 2: 9, you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God, special possession. That proclamation brings with it a determination to be as Christ-like as we can muster.

A prayer for Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second.
O Lord our Heavenly Father, Almighty and Everlasting God, by whom kings reign and princes decree justice: We remember before thee our late Sovereign Lady QUEEN ELIZABETH, in thankfulness for the blessings which thou hast bestowed upon us by her reign; for the example she set of unwearied devotion to duty; for her steadfast courage; and for the love and loyalty borne to her by a great family of peoples in all parts of the world. And we beseech thee to give us grace that, having these thy mercies in remembrance, we may with one heart and one mind set forward the welfare of this land, and hasten the coming of thy kingdom of peace and goodwill among men; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
+ Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord. And let light perpetual shine upon her. May she rest in peace and rise in eternal glory. Amen.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies and giver of all comfort: deal graciously, we pray thee, with all l those who mourn, the members of the Royal Family, this Nation and all Nations of the Commonwealth, that casting every care on thee, we may know the consolation of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
A prayer for His Majesty, King Charles the Third.
Almighty God, who rulest over all the kingdoms of the world, and disposest of them according to thy good pleasure, and who hast now called thy Servant our Sovereign Lord the King to the Throne of this Realm: let thy wisdom be his guide, and let thine arm strengthen him; let justice, truth, and holiness, let peace and love, and all those virtues that adorn the Christian Profession, flourish in his days. Direct all his counsels and endeavours to thy glory, and the welfare of his people; and give us grace to obey him cheerfully and willingly for conscience sake; that neither our sinful passions, nor our private interests, may disappoint his cares for the public good; let him always possess the hearts of his people, that they may never be wanting in honour to his Person, and dutiful submission to his Authority; let his Reign be long and prosperous, and crown him with immortality in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our
